prepares for local elections

20 Vaisakh, Kathmandu. The National Independent Party (RSP) has started preparations for the local elections as soon as the formation of the federal government. RSP, which is participating in the local elections for the first time, has taken a step ahead of other parties and started preparations.

In 2079 Vaisakh, when the local level election was held, the RSP party had not been formed yet. However, RSP had participated in the by-election of the local level. After becoming the first party in the parliamentary election, RSP has accelerated preparations from the central level for the upcoming local elections next year.

RSP has formed a central committee under the convenorship of Deputy General Secretary Vipin Kumar Acharya to select 35,221 candidates. The seven-member committee includes central members R.K. Dhungana, Samiksha Banskota, K.P. Khanal, Kamini Chaudhary, Ramkrishna Bhattarai, and Rohan Karki. R.K. Dhungana is responsible for the membership secretary of the committee.

RSP has informed that the committee was formed to make the selection of candidates for the local level transparent, inclusive, and based on merit. The 'Candidate Selection Framework and Candidate Club Editing Committee' led by Acharya has already discussed and taken suggestions at the ward, municipality, district, and province levels.

The committee has submitted a draft report of the local level candidate selection framework to Chairman Ravi Lamichhane on Sunday. To become a candidate from RSP in the local level election, it is mandatory to pass from the Candidate Club and Leadership Academy.

To become a candidate from RSP in the local level, it is mandatory to be a party member and registered in the candidate club. According to R.K. Dhungana, the member secretary of the committee formed to prepare the candidate selection framework, the party will soon issue a public notice to register in the candidate club.

RSP is taking suggestions from central members and parliamentary members to create a candidate selection method for the local level election. RSP will provide training to those who register their names with the aspiration of becoming a candidate. RSP has set a goal of developing leadership capacity by training and testing members who want to become candidates in any level of state election.

The party will provide training on party constitution, work, duty, rights, work to be done by the local level government, legal, practical aspects, etc. The central committee member Dhungana informed that the party will run both basic and special classes for those who want to become candidates. The party has announced that the leaders of the party and subject experts will provide training.

Although a mandatory method has been set to pass to become a candidate, the required percentage to pass has not been fixed. A method has been set that if the training and testing phase is not passed within the specified time, one will not be able to become a member of the candidate club. Weightage has been determined based on the results of the primary election, Leadership Academy, political proximity, and inclusiveness, etc. for candidate selection.
