6 Jestha, Kavrepalanchok. Bird flu has been confirmed in the Namobuddha Municipality area of Kavrepalanchok.

The Namobuddha Municipality informed that bird flu was confirmed after testing the dead crows around the 26th number of the left barracks of the army in ward no. 2. The municipality had sent the sample to the Central Animal Health Research Laboratory, Tripureshwor, Kathmandu for testing. 'According to the test results received from the laboratory, 'Low Pathogenic H-9' type of bird flu has been confirmed,' said Krishna Giri, the chief administrative officer of the municipality.

The municipality has issued a statement calling on all concerned to adopt high vigilance to reduce the risk of human health from bird flu disease and to prevent the spread of infection. The statement has urged to strictly implement biosecurity measures in poultry farms, to restrict unnecessary persons and vehicles from entering, not to allow other animals and birds to enter the farm premises, and to regularly disinfect the materials used in the farm. Similarly, poultry farmers have been requested to pay special attention to personal hygiene, to inform the nearest animal service office immediately if sick chickens are seen, and not to raise chickens in the open. The municipality has directed that when buying and selling chickens and chicken products, health tests must be done compulsorily and a veterinary certificate must be obtained. At the same time, if chickens are found to be sick or dead in an unnatural way in any farm or sales center, it has also been urged to inform the concerned agency immediately.
