Chitwan: Traffic services resumed this morning on the Krishnabhir section of the Prithvi Highway, which had been obstructed due to flood damage. Two-way traffic has been restored after the construction of a new track on the stretch of road that had remained closed for approximately 18 days following a subsidence.
On Bhadra 14, a section of the road spanning about 100 meters at Krishnabhir collapsed after floodwaters from the Trishuli River eroded the lower part of the roadway. Following the extensive damage, the construction of an alternative track—by cutting into a nearby embankment—began on Bhadra 18.
According to Dhiraj Dhakal, an engineer with the Nagdhunga-Mugling Road Project (Western Section), regular two-way traffic resumed today after the necessary work was completed by Wednesday evening. The required manpower, machinery, and resources were mobilized to restore the road.
With the resumption of traffic at Krishnabhir, roadworks at Tuin Khola—part of the Narayangadh-Mugling section—which had been partially halted to facilitate landslide mitigation efforts, have also been temporarily suspended. Chitwan’s Chief District Officer, Ganesh Aryal, confirmed that the work at Tuin Khola was paused once traffic began flowing through Krishnabhir again.
The prolonged closure of the Krishnabhir road section had caused difficulties for large vehicles traveling to and from the federal capital. It is reported that this disruption also impacted the supply of LP gas to the capital.
Water levels in the Trishuli River had risen following floods in the Bhote Koshi River on Bhadra 10. Subsequently, additional flooding on Bhadra 14 caused damage to the Prithvi Highway at various locations, including Krishnabhir. While traffic resumed elsewhere, the situation at Krishnabhir remained problematic for an extended period because the road itself had subsided.
Approximately 14,000 vehicles travel along that section of the Prithvi Highway daily.
